Weekly updates: Reading: We will continue reading our chapter books, which the students are really enjoying! We are also comparing and contrasting elements of Poetry, Drama, and Prose. We are also exploring all of the different types of figurative language to look for and use in their writing. Writing: This week we will continue to build and type up our opinion essays and review the expectations and specific elements of a good opinion essay. October 22, 2018 Dear Parents, Weekly updates: 3rd and 5th Grades will be IOWA testing all week; our classroom ipads were taken up to use for testing, so please have your child bring in their own device if they have your ok on their BYOT form. Reading: We will continue reading our chapter books, which the students are really enjoying! We will also be comparing and contrasting elements of Poetry and Drama. Dear Parents, The class has done an awesome job this first quarter. I have really enjoyed teaching them this year. Here are the weekly updates: Reading: We will continue reading our book club books, which the students are really enjoying! We will also begin our drama, poetry, and prose unit. Writing: Last week, we were introduced to some exemplar opinion essays, watched some power points, and each student picked an opinion with 3 reasons for that opinion. We will review the expectations and specific elements of a good opinion essay. We are developing a good introduction with a counter-argument for their opinion pieces. Grammar: We will start working on progressive verb tenses and will move into linking and helping verbs. Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend! Upcoming Week: October Mindset: Everything is possible Reading: This week we will be working on our rotations and on book clubs. Students should also be working on a book at home for assignments and have a choice book in class along with their book club book. Read, read, read!!! That’s how we get better at reading! Also, working on Point of View. Students will be making comic strips in 1st and 3rd person using more dialogue. Writing: Students will begin an introduction for their opinion essay this week.
