Hello Parents and Students! Can you believe it's already the end of the 3rd quarter, Crazy!! Reading: We have been working in Unit 5 which focuses on fiction, summarizing, finding theme, setting, and developing characters. We will be reading more historical fiction based books and also reviewing skills we learned in Unit 3 and Unit 1. We will continue our historical fiction novel called Turn Homeward, Hannalee. This novel is based in Roswell, GA during the Civil War. Students are making lots of connections to places we know such as Kennesaw Mountain and Vickory Creek near the Roswell Mill. We are using this novel to discuss the setting, events that cause different points of view, and also dig into the different character's feelings and traits. We will use the skills we learn in our mini lessons and apply them to the book club books we are reading and in our silent reading books too! We will have a quiz next week on these skills Writing: We will continue our Narrative Writing Unit, our focus is on developing a problem and solution while adding descriptions (five senses, adjectives, similes and metaphors to describe) and dialogue between characters. We are creating an ending to a narrative piece for a quiz grade and will have a test of the same kind. Grammar: Last week we started learning about helping verbs and this week we are learning about linking verbs. Your child are receiving notes packets with practice for the quiz Thursday. This will be placed in the ELA tab of their binder as well. Ask your child about...
