Dear Parents & Students!
Hope you have adjusted with the time change and the kiddos have had a nice Monday off! I love the light in the evenings to sneak out and get in 9 holes of golf after dinner! Topics this week: Reading AND Writing: I have finished the BAS reading assessments, so ask your child how many reading levels they have grown, I am very happy to say most have improved 2 levels!! Thanks so much for continuing to support your child's love of reading by getting them a copy of the book they chose to read for book club. These books are on their individual reading levels. We will be having a reading test tomorrow covering text structures/features, and 1st and 2nd hand accounts. Students are now working on their magazine project writing their own articles about the non-fiction text structures (description, compare & contrast, cause & effect, chronological order, and problem & solution). We will continue reading aloud Fantastic Failures and through this read aloud students have been able to identify a variety of text structures. We have currently read about Oprah Winfrey, and will be reading about J.K. Rowling, and Nelson Mandela. For our essays, we have completed and typed up their informational essays. We will continue to review writing techniques. You can find notes and info on our website as well as Google Classroom. Students will also continue to work on the informational essays for their magazine. Grammar: We are still learning about affixes. We will be complete learning about the affixes "chron" and "graph/gram" this week. The students have done a great job identifying these root words in their reading and also defining words that consist of these roots. We will have short quiz on these roots on Friday. Reminders:
